Canon engineers held back by marketing department’s “megapixel race”

This just in: Canon engineers held back by marketing department’s “megapixel race”

This is what I have been personally fighting against internally. Finally I seem to be getting some engineers on my side now.

More on that later, I’m currently still on the phone with Japan talking about the fucking mirror falling off of my 5D Mark II.

  1. one more question, can Canon’s “L” zooms resolve 21 MP? I saw some MTF charts and was wondering if the “L” primes can cut the mustard, so the question is can they? I already own 17-40L, 24-70L, 70-200/2.8IS, 35L and was wondering if I should ditch the zooms and go all primes so I can resolve detail to the 21 MP sensor, why pay for 21 MP if lenses can’t send the information to it…. any thoughts?

  2. Hey Chuck,
As a 1D3 owner I feel I have been well and truely shafted since making my purchase 18 months ago. It was bad enough that as an Aussie I couldn’t use my camera outside and expect anything in focus, (mind you it works brilliantly inside – good work fellas) but within just a few months you guys released a bloody consumer camera (450D) with more MP (12) than my AUS$6500 1D, and now there’s a bloody 15MP 50D and 21MP 5D. I could buy all bloody 3 cameras (with a combined MP count of 48) for about the same price as my 1d3 doorstop.
I came very close to forking out AUS$11000 on a 1ds3 a few months ago, it seems leaving my money in the bank was a good decision.
